So You’re A Mary

When I was back in university I was part of a girl group called Temple. We would come together once a week to learn and just love on one another. We used to have get-togethers and sleepovers, it was just a safe place. A few girls wanting to love and please Jesus and I learned a lot of great stuff there.

One Friday evening we were having movie night where we watched “Amazing Love”- a cool movie about the story of Hosea and Gomer. After the movie we were talking and I remember one of us saying something along the lines of “the bible says that those who are forgiven more love more. So what about those of us who haven’t necessarily fallen off the wagon and have sort of done the right thing all our lives”. No one really had a satisfactory answer. The events of that night kept playing over in my head and a couple of years later, Mary came to mind.

I remember when I was really young, that soft feminine beauty was celebrated but now we are in the time of restoration, renewal and revival. And because of the trials of our present day we discover that Rahab and Gomer are trying to find their way back. The broken, heavy laden and those with a bit of history and baggage are finding their way to the cross. This left my friend feeling lost and I found out why. She’s a Mary.

When I think about Mary I smile softly. She was almost perfect, the original plan. There’s a certain beauty she possesses. When I think about her my mind goes to Kari Jobe or Girl Defined, there’s just something about them. If you’re unfamiliar with those names you can google them and watch one of their videos and listen to one of her songs. The purity, sweetness and simplicity just captures your heart. Now with Heather Lindsey you might get a bit of spice.

Honestly if you’re having lustful thoughts put Kari Jobe on, I tell you it is ten times more effective than a cold shower. I know I know but let a sister preach, even when she does upbeat the lyrics and the sincerity of her voice… I give you two tracks you wouldn’t know when you start worshipping. Before you’re halfway through the album you’d forget what made you turn it on in the first place.

I’ve got a friend I’ve known for more than half my life and she’s kinda like that. She’s a PK and I’ll bet she’ll marry a P become a PW and have lots of PKs that would eventually become Ps and PWs. If you don’t know what any of those mean then you’re either unfamiliar with the little slangs or you’re new to the faith, and if you’re the second then let me have the pleasure of welcoming you to the faith. It’s a bit of a bumpy ride ahead but by the Grace of God we would get a crown in the end. Back to my friend, I was joking with her yesterday and told her she’s like Jesus- all pure and sanctified. Now if she was anywhere near me I would have gotten shoved in the head. But seriously there’s just something about her that’s like a breath of fresh air. Conversations with her are like good music, 10 minutes in and you’ve forgotten what was bothering you.

What I’m trying to say is that as a Mary there’s a certain beauty about you that’s almost childlike. You have something special to offer the world. You are uncommon. You are a gem.

Keep being stellar and keep being you, adding your flavour to the world, impacting it the way only you can.

Love, Hazel
